Hello everyone!
Here is all the information you will need to prepare for the final essay on Wednesday, August 9th. Format: 500-600 words. ( 1 page single spaced, 2 pages double spaced). Genre of essay: comparative Essay question/topic: Compare any two texts you have read in class. This means you can compare any two short stories or any two poems. Please note that you cannot compare a poem and a short story. You can only compare a poem with another poem, or a short story with another short story. Some helpful hints: 1. When you are trying to choose your poems or short stories, try to look for some common literary devices, themes, or topics. 2. You may write a practice essay in class this week for me to look at. I will give you feedback on your practice essay, which will help you be more prepared for the final. 3. If you are comparing two short stories , think about your 'Hand' outs. You can get more material if you write about the setting, theme, characters, etc. 4. Use as many of the short story terms or literary devices as you can. Study the handouts so that you can remember the terms and reference them in your work. Rules: 1. This will be an in class essay. No computers, no dictionaries, no phones. The essay will be hand written. 2. You must organize your essay into clear paragraphs: beginning, middle, and end. 3. Please stick to texts that we have read in class. You'll have the entire class on Wednesday to do it. Please let me know if you have any questions! We will be doing a practice essay on Thursday, and Friday will be used to address any questions you may have. We will also make time on Friday for individual sessions, where I give each of you a specific time period to sit with me and ask me any questions you may have. Happy thinking! Ms.S

You can include any similar information in your write up. Please keep the write up short.
